PUBLISH Institute publishes analysis of digital news traffic in South Korea

In South Korea, digital news is primarily accessed through the news sections of portals like Naver (naver.com) and Daum (daum.net), as well as through dedicated news websites. The Act on the Promotion of Newspapers mandates that such entities, respectively referred to as "online news services" and "online newspapers", register with their respective jurisdictional bodies. As social media services such as YouTube, Kakao Talk, Facebook, Instagram, and X (formerly Twitter) do not fall under either of these classifications, they are not subject to the same regulatory requirements and oversight.

Notably, many digital news websites in South Korea enter into content partnerships with these portals. As a result, news consumption via portals is markedly higher than in other countries. Continue reading...
